Missing Maps maps areas for the aid organisations Red Cross Netherlands, Médecins Sans Frontières and UNESCO. At AeroVision, experts meet monthly to validate the mapping done by various volunteers. This day, the Dominican Republic was preemptively mapped due to expected severe weather. The Gaza Strip was also mapped from satellite images prior to 7 October 2023. This was in connection with reconstruction preparations.
Willem-Jan Stegeman himself was put to work mapping pieces of a residential area. ‘Good work is being done here. Interesting to learn about the world behind the relief work,’ the councillor said.
